Travel Archive – A Glimpse of Nagano

In spring 2017, whilst on a holiday in Japan, we took a short detour from the busy cities of Tokyo and Kyoto and made our way to a small quaint town in Nagano. There lies a beautiful self-built cottage, where its design and clever use of space serves its form and function as a respite from everyday city life. Everything in the house was locally sourced and curated thoughtfully with the purpose of creating an intimate space that made it feel like a home away from home.

This home made us disconnect and reconnect with ourselves. Reminding us, what Project Coal is, was and will be.

"Sanson Terrace" - Formerly a silkworm factory, it was then re-constructed by hand by our host, Daigo, with the help of his father.

It was also in this very house that we shot our collection of linen bags –
